One - to - one and Small Group Instruction
Our instructors utilize specialized multisensory programs designed to improve the underlying processes that affect reading, spelling and comprehension.
For students struggling with reading accuracy, reading fluency and/or spelling, the cause is often an underlying weakness in phonemic awareness and/or orthographic processing. To improve these weaknesses, instructors may utilize these programs or instructional approaches:

Structured Word Inquiry
Students struggling with reading and oral langauge comprehension, expressive language, vocabulary development, critical thinking skills and/or writing often have weak concept imagery. Concept imagery refers to the student's ability to make a mental movie when reading or listening. When a student does not make a mental movie at all or does not make a mental movie quickly enough, she only processes bits and pieces of information rather than all of the important information as a whole. To improve this underlying weakness and apply it to writing skills, instructors may utilize these programs or instructional approaches:

Expanding Expression
Instruction is provided online via Zoom or in-person at a convenient location - the student's home or school, a local library, or another location that allows us to work in a quiet and nurturing environment. Instructors create an Individualized Instruction Plan for every student that addresses their unique needs. Parents are updated on a regular basis so that there are no surprises along the way.
Homework Coaching
Our instructors provide Homework Coaching to help students apply their skills to homework. Homework time can often be incredibly stressful for parents and students. When our instructors come into the home to help with homework, they bring expertise in both the subject matter and the underlying skills that the student may need to call upon in order to complete the assignment. Homework coaching includes guidance in time management and study skills as well.
Student Workshops
Read Texas offers Student Workshops during weekends, summers, and school breaks. Our Student Workshops are intended to further the students' progress in their underlying skills. We also offer Student Workshops in specific skill application areas such as Time Management, Grammar, Writing, and Math Word Problems. Each summer we offer a Refresher Workshop for past students to ensure that their skills are fresh as they go into the new school year.
Homeschool Classes
Instructors lead homeschool classes for larger groups of up to 12 children. These homeschool classes address the same underlying skills as the one-to-one instruction, just in a classroom setting. Homeschool classes can be tailored to the students' specific needs and schedule.
Homeschool Coaching
Parents who choose to homeschool often do so because their child is struggling in the public or private school environment. They choose to homeschool in order to offer more individualized direct instruction for their child. Read Texas provides coaching and support for these families so that they feel more confident and empowered in their ability to address their child's needs.
Read Texas instructors work directly with parents to set lesson plans, model lessons, and answer any questions or overcome any obstacles as parents work with their children. Our goal with Homeschool Coaching is to provide parents with the support needed to successfully implement specialized multisensory programs.
